Throughout the day, my family was discussing via e-mail the pros and cons of social media integration with church. It seems as if a few churches are struggling how to best use Twitter. I understand, social media is new.
But isn’t the Bible just a collection of letters, pre-Facebook social media? From Gutenberg to televangelists, Christians have always been at the forefront of technology. Jesus asked Christians to disciple everyone; the message delivery system wasn’t prescribed.
So, I agree with Rev Gruenewald when he said, “whether you’re involved or not, that conversation [church and faith] is going to happen regardless on Twitter or Facebook.” It’s our choice whether we want to engage. I’m more inclined to be incarnational, reaching people where they are, not where I wish them to be.
